Rebirth : Art & Cultural exchange exhibition identity /

About the exhibition:

According to Taoist philosophy, the universe is formed by Five Elements: metal, , wood, water, fire and earth. All natural phenomena can be understood through their interaction. The five elements are inter-generating or counter-acting in the following manner: wood feeds fire, fire creates earth (ashes), earth bears metal (minerals), metal (containers) collects water, and water in turn nourishes wood. In terms of counter-action, fire is hostile to wood, wood parts earth (such as roots), earth dams or absorbs water, water extinguishes fire, fire melts metal, and finally metal can cut wood. We can understand the city of Kikinda through the element of fire. Kikinda employs fire in its production of ceramic works, and is as such famous for in the manufacturing of kitchens and bathroom ceramic tiles. More importantly, for over 30 years, Kikinda hosts an annual ceramic art camp, which entertains ceramic artists from everywhere. Each artist leaves a ceramic piece at the end of the event – including large oeuvres measuring more than 140 cm in height, and smaller works that are around 45 cm tall. Members and friends of Association White Box Friends will thus have the opportunity to see large-size pieces from ceramists world wide.

Design background:

The combination of the fire of ceramics and the Tisa Flower.
The Tisa Flower/  Tisa is a river that originates in Ukraine and passes through Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Serbia, to flow into the Danube in Serbia. Kikinda is not far away from the Tisa bank.
Along the Tisa river lives “TheTisa Flower” (Palingenia longicauda), an ancient insect, which once inhibited the most of Europe. However due to environmental pollution, larger numbers of this insect species can be found in the last decades only along the Tisa river, mainly in Serbia and Hungary.
